Notice of Security Incident
Tempel Steel Company, LLC (“Tempel”) understands the importance of protecting information. We recently identified and addressed a security incident involving information concerning participants in the Tempel’s health and welfare plan (the “Plan”).
What Happened?
On February 6, 2025, we detected unusual activity within our network that caused certain devices to become unavailable. We immediately implemented our response protocols, took measures to contain the activity, and launched an investigation. A cybersecurity firm that has assisted other companies in similar situations also was engaged. We notified law enforcement and are supporting its investigation.
The evidence showed there was unauthorized activity within our network between February 6, 2025 and February 7, 2025. During this period, an unauthorized actor viewed and obtained files stored on certain servers in our network.
What Information Was Involved?
We conducted a careful review of the files involved and, on March 25, 2025, determined that they contained information concerning Plan participants, including their names and one or more of the following: Social Security number; tax identification number; date of birth; health insurance information; health information; and/or financial account information.
What We Are Doing.
We are mailing letters to the individuals involved and have arranged for eligible individuals to receive access to complimentary credit and identity monitoring products. To help prevent something like this from happening again, we have taken and are taking steps to enhance our existing security measures.
What You Can Do.
Eligible individuals can enroll in the complimentary credit and identity monitoring product we have provided. Additionally, the letters we are mailing to the individuals involved describe steps they can take to protect their information.
